Paragraph addressing the three themes:

Social, Political, Intellectual

King Louis XIV reigned as the "Sun King" for 72 years. The longest reign of any European monarch. He was the king of France. He made it very clear that his goal was "one king, one law, one faith." In an attempt to achieve this goal, Louis waged a serious of wars, including the Franco-Dutch war and many others. Through war Louis gained absolute authority in France. Louis XIV considered it his responsibility as a Roman Catholic to make all of France Catholic, even if there would be bloodshed in the process. Although Louis achieved absolute power in France he faced many major problems. He had lost significant amounts of money by waging war with other nations. His religious intolerance had caused many Huguenots to flee France, abandoning their job and taking all their french money with them. When he died in 1715, The power of Louis XIV had declined significantly. The power of France as a nation, and the power of the french monarchy would continue to decline until the French Revolution. Even though Louis XIV was able to establish absolute authority in France it came at a cost. His ambitions threw France into a debt and a public unrest that would serve as a prologue to the French Revolution.

Paragraph addressing his successes or failures as a monarch:

Louis XIV was a model for all kings. He attempted rebellions by the Parliament and Aristocracy. Louis later took control of the Chief Minister and ruled France by himself. Kings in this time period usually depended on church for their power, but in France, Louis XIV turned all the powerful nobles into countiers. Louis then moved the royal court away from Paris because there was a little trouble. He moved it to a new palace in Versailles. This was the most important opulent court in Europe. Louis XIV also expanded the borders of France to become what is modern day France. He won four wars but he also lost numerous wars over religious matters. His successes outweighed his failures. He was an admirable monarch and left a mark on France. King Louis XIV was  man of great accomplishments.
