 Peter the Great or otherwise known as Peter the First was a king of Russia. He  was one of the most powerful rulers Russia ever had. He ruled Russia from 1685 to 1725. Good teachers and technical experts were at high demand to help the peoples education. Peter put a lot of effort into making sure the economy was thriving. He was a large supporter of exporting goods. Trade was the majority of the economy as well as mining and textiles. Without a strong economy he would not have been able to fund his army. Peter lead a strong army that successfully captured a Swedish fort and defeated the Swedish navy. The navy wasn't the only important aspect during this time period. Travel by boat was becoming more common for people and he decided he needed to better the waterways. This helped trade as well. He was the founder of St. Petersburg. That is of the more popular things he is remembered by is his dedication to Russia.
